Cost Intelligence

The Cost Intelligence view is a standalone dashboard that surfaces the cost impact of your infrastructure changes across all open pull requests — with fleet-level summaries, per-PR breakdowns, AI-generated insights, and detailed cost item analysis.

Overview

Cost Intelligence aggregates cost estimation data from all your connected repositories into a single view, organized around four questions:

  1. What's our baseline? — Fleet-level infrastructure cost posture
  2. What's changing? — PR-by-PR cost impact, separated into increases, neutral, and savings
  3. What should we know? — AI-generated observations about cost patterns and optimization opportunities
  4. What are the details? — Drill-down into individual cost items with monthly and annual projections

View States

The Cost Intelligence view adapts its layout based on available data:

Fleet Summary

Aggregate statistics across all open PRs:

MetricDescription
Total IncreasesCount of PRs that increase infrastructure cost
Total SavingsCount of PRs that decrease infrastructure cost
Net DeltaCombined cost impact across all open PRs
Baseline MonthlyCurrent monthly infrastructure cost baseline

Cost Posture

The Cost Posture section shows your organization's current infrastructure cost baseline — the monthly cost of your existing resources as estimated from merged PR data. This provides the reference point against which open PR cost changes are measured.

PR Cost Breakdown

Open PRs with cost impact are organized into three collapsible sections:

Cost Increases

PRs that add or modify resources in ways that increase monthly cost, sorted by cost delta (largest first). Each PR shows:

  • Repository name and PR title
  • Total cost delta with direction indicator
  • Expandable to see individual cost items

Cost Neutral

PRs where resource changes have no net cost impact (collapsed by default).

Cost Savings

PRs that reduce infrastructure cost, sorted by savings magnitude (largest first).

Cost Insights

AI-generated observations about your cost data, organized into two categories:

Active Insights

Observations that may require action — patterns, anomalies, or optimization opportunities detected across your PRs:

  • Each insight includes a title, explanation, and potential savings estimate
  • Click to investigate further or ask Pylon for recommendations

Acknowledged Insights

Insights that have been reviewed and marked as acknowledged. You can acknowledge an insight to move it out of the active list without dismissing the underlying data.

Regenerate: Force-regenerate all insights if your cost data has changed significantly.

Detail Drawer

Click any PR in the cost breakdown to open the Detail Drawer with:

  • Monthly and annual projections — Toggle between timeframes
  • Item count — Total cost items in this PR
  • Agent narrative — AI-generated explanation of the cost impact
  • Cost items list — Sorted by absolute delta, each showing:
    • Resource type and identifier
    • Monthly cost delta with direction
    • Pricing source and confidence
  • Optimization opportunities — Recommendations for cost-positive items (e.g., right-sizing, reserved instances)
  • Verdict footer (for open PRs) — Save cost decisions and sync to GitHub

Agent Voice

The Cost Intelligence view includes an AI-generated narrative that explains the current cost landscape in natural language — highlighting the most significant changes, trends, and recommendations without requiring you to parse numbers.

Plan Availability

Cost Intelligence requires a Pro or Enterprise plan. The costCheck feature flag must be enabled for your organization.
